Fantasy Football: G’s Week Nine Waiver Wire Tuesday Pick-Up’s
Ah, fantasy football is in the air and it's everyone's favorite day during the week leading up to the games, Waiver Wire Tuesday.
As we did last season I'll be breaking down the best players to add off the waiver wire to your fantasy football rosters on a weekly basis. Maybe there's an injury or a player who's just not performing up to expectations, dump them and find yourself a gem off the waiver wire that'll help you dominate.
Also, as a rule of thumb, if you're new to our weekly fantasy football column we don't look at players off the waiver wire who are owned in more than 50% of leagues and we use ESPN.
This week we continue with the bye weeks and unfortunately, we've got four teams that will enjoy Sunday off. There is a ton of fire-power that'll be off this week that you hopefully planned ahead for. In addition, we've got a couple of players dealing with injuries, and we're going to need to replace them because some of them are going to miss a couple of weeks.
In addition, again now would be a great time to think ahead a little bit. What I mean by this is a little planning can go a long way by looking to see which of your guys have bye-weeks coming up and grabbing someone who has a good match-up when your stud is chilling on his bye.
BYE WEEK: Cincinnati Bengals, Atlanta Falcons, Los Angeles Rams, New Orleans Saints
Happy hunting.
QUARTERBACKS:
Gardner Minshew, JAX vs. HOU (49.5% Owned)
I'm surprised he isn't more than 50% owned at this point but if he's out there and you need a consistent option at QB, Minshew is your guy. He's managed 16 plus fantasy points in every contest except for the one against the Saints for far this season. He's got one of the best young running backs in the league in Leonard Fournette and the receivers are young and hungry as well.
Jimmy Garoppolo, SF @ ARI (33% Owned)
I understand that Jimmy G has underperformed to what fantasy owners may have expected coming into this season but San Fran isn't complaining at 7-0. However, this could be the week he puts up some high-quality fantasy production going up against one of the worst pass defenses in the league in the Arizona Cardinals. In addition, he's got the new toy to throw to as well in Emmanuel Sanders who already paid dividends with a score this past week.
RUNNING BACKS:
Mark Walton, MIA vs. NYJ (12% Owned)
Welp, I don't really love any skill position players from the Miami Dolphins but if you need some production at running back it might be worth at the very least taking a flyer on Walton. Kenyan Drake was traded to the Arizona Cardinals on Monday so Walton will carry the load for Miami moving forward it would seem.
Alexander Mattison, MIN @ KC (18% Owned)
I'll begin by saying that Dalvin Cook is LEGIT in that Minnesota backfield but in short spurts, Mattison has shown he's a capable back with some explosion to his running. At this point in the season if you own Cook you must own Mattison as well just in case something were to happen with Dalvin injury-wise.
WIDE RECEIVERS:
Demaryius Thomas, NYJ @ MIA (5% Owned)
I've been hyping it up for a couple of weeks now that this is the stretch for the New York Jets that their skill position players along with their quarterback might actually be fantasy relevant starting with this week. The once Pro-Bowl receiver isn't that anymore but he is catching the eye of Sam Darnold with 27 targets over his last four games while averaging four catches per game. He'll be at Miami this weekend who ranks 26th against opposing WR.
Josh Reynolds, LAR BYE (0.2% Owned)
Reynolds may not help you this week because he's on a bye but with Brandin Cooks sustaining his second concussion of the season last week Reynolds saw increased usage. In addition, he turned more snaps into production as he delivered three catches on eight targets, 73 yards, and a score. The Los Angeles Rams love their three-plus WR sets, in fact no team has run a higher percentage of them in 2019. Yeah, I know it's weird to call a WR a handcuff but if you have Cooks I would also own Reynolds.
TIGHT ENDS:
Dallas Goedert PHI vs. CHI (32% Owned)
It's kind of seeming like there might be a slight changing of the guard in Philly at tight end. As it sits right now both guys are co-stars in this offensive movie and Goedert has actually been outshining Ertz a bit of late. Over the last three weeks, Goedert has 17 targets, 12 receptions, averaging just over 43 yards, and has two touchdowns. For Ertz, he's come away with 19 targets but just eight receptions for an average of just over 37 yards per game and zero touchdowns.
Best of luck in week nine.
