The 8th-ranked LSU Tigers captured a conference win on Friday night, defeating the 24th-ranked Arkansas Razorbacks, in the opening game of a three-game, weekend, SEC series at Alex Box Stadium in Baton Rouge.

The win pushed LSU's current win streak  to six games, and moved the Tigers to within one-half game of both Alabama and Ole Miss, who are tied for first-place, atop the SEC West.

 

Outfielder Sean McMullen led the way at the plate for LSU, going 1-for-3, with two runs scored, and two runs batted in, as the Tigers and Arkansas both manged only five hits apiece.

Junior right-hander Aaron Nola (7-1) picked up the win for LSU, striking out a career-high 13 hitters in seven innings, with Joe Broussard recorded his eighth save of the season.

Trey Killian (1-6) suffered the loss for the Razorbacks.

With the victory, LSU improved to 26-8-1, overall, and 7-5-1 in SEC play, while Arkansas fell to 21-14, overall, and 6-7 in league play.

The Tigers and Razorbacks square off in Game 2 of the series Saturday at 12 noon.

Freshman left-hander Jared Poche’ (6-2, 2.25 ERA) will take the mound for LSU, while junior left-hander Jalen Beeks (5-2, 1.05 ERA) will start for Arkansas.
