Louisiana's Ragin' Cajun softball team maintained sole possession of first place atop the Sun Belt Conference softball standings after play on Saturday, after sweeping a league road doubleheader from the Appalachian St. Mountaineers.

Louisiana won the first game, 21-5, before taking the second game, 23-6, both in five-inning, mercy rule fashion

The Cajuns crushed 13 home runs in the two games, combined, and improved their current win streak to nine games, while widening their lead in the race for the Sun Belt Conference regular season crown.

With the two wins, Louisiana is now 34-5, overall, and 17-3 in league play, which gives them a one-and-one-half game advantage over South Alabama, who had their scheduled doubleheader against Texas St. rained out in Mobile on Saturday.

The Cajuns are scheduled for a single game on Sunday against Appalachian St., but that match-up may be in jeopardy, as a good chance of rain is in the forecast in Boone, North Carolina late Saturday, and through Sunday.

Meanwhile, South Alabama and Texas St. will try to play a doubleheader on Sunday, beginning at 11 am.

In Statesboro, Georgia, Troy swept a doubleheader from Georgia Southern, inning by scores of 7-1, and 7-3.

Finally, Georgia St. and UT-Arlington split a twinbill in Arlington, Texas, with Georgia St. winning the opener, 6-1, before UT-Arlington took the second game, 5-2.
