Gamenight: Cajuns Go For Arkansas Sweep at A-State

This year marks the seventh time that Louisiana has played both Arkansas-Little Rock and Arkansas State on the same road trip.

And, for only the third time, the Cajuns have a chance to sweep the series.

Louisiana (10-10, 4-2 Sun Belt) goes for its third straight win tonight when the face the Arkansas State Red Wolves (8-12, 2-4) at the Convocation Center in Jonesboro.  Gametime is 7:05pm and will be heard on the Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns radio network, which includes ESPN1420 and Hot 107.9.

The Cajuns swept the "Arkansas Swing" in 1997-98 and again in 1999-2000, both when Jessie Evans was head coach.

Louisiana trails the all time series at the Convocation Center, 11-9.  ASU has won the last two meetings in the Convo, which opened in the 1987-88 season.  Arkansas State has never beaten the Cajuns three straight times in the arena.

Overall, the Cajuns lead the all time series 43-20 and lead in meetings in Jonesboro 17-13.

ASU was picked to win the Sun Belt Western Division this year, but is just 2-4  league play.  The Red Wolves have had some close games in the league, suffering losses to Denver by three points and UALR by one point.  Their conference wins have come over Louisiana-Monroe by two points and over North Texas on a three pointer at the buzzer.

The Cajuns are coming off their best road performance of the season, having defeated UALR 68-49  Thursday night in Little Rock.  Louisiana held the Trojans to 25 percent shooting for the contest.

Junior guard Raymone Andrews is questionable for tonight's game after playing just eleven minutes Thursday night.  Andrews suffered a hip pointer last Saturday night against Florida International.

In conference games, Louisiana is second in the league in scoring offense, averaging 68 points per game.  They'll face a deliberate ASU club tonight that averages just 58 points in league games.

Junior College transfer Marcus Hooten leads the Red Wolves in scoring at 12 ppg.  He is shooting over 40 percent from three point range.  6-8 forward Malcolm Kirkland averages nearly 12 points per contest as ASU's double digit scorers.  ASU has three other players, guards Trey Finn and Ed Townsel, and forward Brandon Peterson, who all average over nine points.  All five ASU starters average more than 30 minutes played per game.

ASU will be looking to snap a three game losing streak, all in Sun Belt play, with two of the losses coming at home.

Last year, the Cajuns were beaten by ASU, 74-65 in Jonesboro before rebounding with a 64-61 win at the Cajundome.
