Cajuns Baseball Signs Two LSU-E Standouts
Louisiana's Ragin' Cajuns have signed two more players for the 2013
season and both have a national championship to their credit.
Shortstop/Third baseman Sam Carriere (Destrehan) and LHP Cody Boutte (New Iberia), who led LSU-Eunice to the 2012 NJCAA Division II National Championship, have signed to play with the Cajuns.
The 5-10 Carriere played shortstop for the Bengals this past season, but may project as a third baseman at the Division I level, hit .329 this past season with 16 doubles, five homers and 60 runs batted in. Carriere is a top of the lineup hitter who stole 21 bases in 23 attempts this past season.
Boutte pitched the national championship game for LSU-E, allowing seven hits and three runs with eleven strikeouts in seven innings of work. For the season, Boutte was 9-1 with a 1.82 ERA. He fills a void in the pitching staff, especially from the left side after the Cajuns lost LHP Jordan Harrison to the draft and RHP signee Austin Goudeau as well.
