Cajun Women Knock Off South Alabama,
Louisiana's Ragin' Cajuns women's basketball team broke a ten game losing streak to South Alabama Wednesday night, beating the Jaguars 65-60 at the Mitchell Center in Mobile, AL.
Louisiana (10-5. 3-1 Sun Belt) matched its win total from last season, both overall and in conference play, with the win.
Brooklyn Arceneaux had a career high 19 points on 6-11 from the field and 7-11 from the free throw line. Kia Wilridge added a double double with eleven points and eleven rebounds.
The Cajuns were without leading scorer Keke Veal, who is out indefinitely with a stress fracture.
Ronneka Robinson and Breanna Hall scored fifteen each for South Alabama (4-11, 2-3). Rachel Cumbo added fourteen points.
The Cajuns won by forcing the Jaguars into 30 turnovers in the contest, which offset the Cajuns being outshot, percentage-wise from the field, the three point line and the free throw line. The Cajuns were also outrebounded in the game.
The Cajuns led most of the first half, but a late South Alabama run cut the lead to two points at halftime, 31-29.
The Cajuns trailed by three, 46-43 with 8:53 to play. But Sylvana Okde hit a three pointer to the game and Arceneaux scored on a layup. After a couple of free throws, Wilridge capped a 9-0 Cajuns run with a layup to put Louisiana on top 52-46 with 7:31 to go. The Cajuns had their biggest lead, 59-51 with 1:51 left, and the Jaguars got no closer than three the rest of the way.
The Cajuns now head to Troy to take on the Trojans Saturday at 5pm.
