Alabama/Florida St. Top First BCS Rankings Of 2013

The first Bowl Championship Series rankings of 2013 were released Sunday night, with the Alabama Crimson Tide and the Florida St. Seminoles leading the way.

Alabama, who defeated Arkansas, 52-0, last Saturday, is 7-0 on the year, with wins over Virginia Tech, Texas A&M, Colorado St., Ole Miss, Georgia St., Kentucky, and Arkansas.

The Crimson Tide, who host Tennessee this week, have the Volunteers, as well as LSU, Mississippi St., Chattanooga, and Auburn remaining on their schedule.

Florida St. fresh off of their impressive 51-14 win over Clemson last Saturday, is number two.

The Seminoles have wins over Pittsburgh, Nevada, Bethune-Cookman, Boston College, Maryland, and Clemson to account for their 6-0 record.

Florida St. is number three in both of the human polls used in the BCS, the USA Today and the Harris polls, but got a boost in the computer standings.

The Seminoles, who host North Carolina St. this week, also games remaining against Miami (Fla.), Wake Forest, Syracuse, Idaho, and Florida.

Oregon, who is number two in the human polls, is ranked third in the BCS standings.

The Ducks, who moved to 7-0 with a 62-38 win over Washington St. last week, also have wins over Nicholls St., Virginia, Tennessee, Colorado, California, and Washington.

Oregon may get a boost in the rankings, courtesy of strength of schedule, with games remaining against three ranked teams, UCLA, Stanford, and Oregon St., as well as Utah and Arizona.

The Ducks host #12 UCLA this Saturday.

Ohio St., who ran the nation's longest winning-streak to 19 games, with a 34-24 win over Iowa last week, is ranked fourth.

The Buckeyes, who are 7-0 this year, will host Penn St. this week.

Missouri, who has wins over Georgia and Florida over the last two weeks, and who is undefeated, at 7-0 on the year, is ranked fifth.

The Tigers face their third-consecutive ranked opponent this Saturday, when they host South Carolina.

Stanford, Miami (Florida), Baylor, Clemson, and Texas Tech round out the top ten.

In the second ten, Auburn, UCLA, LSU, Virginia Tech, and Oklahoma are ranked 11-15, with Texas A&M, Fresno St., Northern Illinois, Oklahoma St., and Louisville in spots 16-20.

Rounding out the top 25 in the first BCS standings are South Carolina, Michigan, UCF, Nebraska, and Oregon St.

This will be the last year for the Bowl Championship Series, as it will be replaced by a four-team playoff, effective for the 2014–15 season.
